☀️ Why is the Sun made of gas, while Earth and Mars are rocky?

About 4.6 billion years ago, the entire Solar System formation began as a huge cloud of gas and dust called a nebula.

From this single cloud, both the Sun and all planets formed.
But they became very different because of gravity, temperature, and material behavior.

🌌 What was the nebula?

The nebula contained:

* Hydrogen (most abundant)
* Helium
* Dust particles
* Heavy elements (iron, silicon, nickel)

It was spread across vast distances in space.

🧲 How did gravity start the process?

Gravity pulled all particles toward each other.

Key idea:

Every object with mass creates gravity.

As particles attracted each other:

* The cloud slowly collapsed
* Density increased
* Temperature began to rise

F = G\frac{m_1 m_2}{r^2}

This collapse eventually formed a rotating disk with a dense center.

☀️ Formation of the Sun

At the center:

* Pressure and temperature became extremely high
* Hydrogen atoms began nuclear fusion

4^1H \rightarrow \ ^4He \text{energy}

This fusion released massive energy, forming the Sun.

The Sun is mostly gas (plasma) because:

* It contained the largest amount of hydrogen and helium
* Gravity pulled these light gases into the center
* The core became hot enough for fusion

🌍 Why are Earth and Mars rocky?

Inner planets like:

* Mercury
* Venus
* Earth
* Mars

formed closer to the Sun where temperatures were extremely high.

Because of this:

* Light gases (hydrogen, helium) could not survive
* They were blown away by heat and solar wind
* Only heavy materials remained (rock, metal, silicon)

These materials condensed and formed solid rocky planets.

\text{High temperature near Sun} \Rightarrow \text{Only heavy materials condense}

🌌 Why are outer planets gas giants?

Far from the Sun, temperatures were much lower.

This allowed:

* Gases to survive
* Ice and hydrogen compounds to accumulate

So giant planets formed:

* Jupiter
* Saturn
* Uranus
* Neptune

🌠 Conclusion

Even though everything formed from the same nebula:

* Gravity brought matter together
* Temperature decided what could survive where
* Heavy elements formed rocky planets
* Light gases formed the Sun and gas giants

That is why:

* The Sun is a glowing ball of plasma
* Earth became a solid planet capable of supporting life
