Tik Tok CEO Shou Zi Chew is Singaporean. During a U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, when Senator Tom Cotton repeatedly pressed him about any connections to the Chinese Communist Party, Chew firmly responded, “Senator, I’m Singaporean,” clarifying his nationality to dispel affiliations with China despite Tik Tok’s Chinese ownership. Chew was born and raised in Singapore, has served in the Singapore Armed Forces, and holds degrees from University College London and Harvard Business School. He lives in Singapore with his family and has no association with the Chinese Communist Party.
