This is a well-known inspirational story associated with Gautam Buddha.
According to the story, a disciple once told Buddha that his clothes had become old and he needed new ones. Buddha calmly asked, “What will you do with the old clothes?”
The disciple replied, “I will turn them into a bedsheet.”
Buddha then asked, “And when the bedsheet becomes old?”
He said, “I will make a curtain from it.”
“And when the curtain becomes old?”
“I will make a cleaning cloth (rag).”
“And when that too becomes useless?”
The disciple answered, “I will use its threads as a wick to light a lamp.”
The message of this story is about simplicity, mindful living, and avoiding waste. It teaches us to respect resources, reuse what we have, and live with contentment rather than greed.
