The deepest known point in Earth’s oceans is about 10,935 meters (around 10.9 km or 35,876 feet) deep. It is located at Challenger Deep, which is inside the Mariana Trench in the western Pacific Ocean.
For comparison:
* This depth is greater than the height of Mount Everest (~8,849 meters).
* If Mount Everest were placed inside the trench, its peak would still be more than 2 km underwater.
Scientists measure ocean depth using sonar systems and deep-sea exploration equipment.
