Saudi Arabia vs Israel: The New AI Data Center Race🤖
A new technology race is growing in the Middle East. Saudi Arabia and Israel are both investing heavily in AI data centers, but their plans are different.
🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia: Huge AI Project on the Red Sea
Saudi Arabia is building a major AI data center at Oxagon, part of the NEOM project on the Red Sea coast.
Saudi company Humain and DataVolt are developing the project.
The first stage will have 100 MW of computing power. The first phase is planned to reach 360 MW, while the long-term plan is for a huge 1,500 MW (1.5 GW) AI campus.
The first 100 MW is expected to be available in 2028.
The project has an announced initial investment of about $5 billion.
Saudi Arabia wants to use projects like this to become a major global center for AI, cloud computing and advanced technology.
🇮🇱 Israel: AI Data Centers in Several Locations
Israel is following a different strategy.
Mega Data Centers (Mega DC) is developing data-center projects in several locations, including:
* Beit Shemesh — 240 MW
* Idan Hanegev — 180 MW
* Masmia — 40 MW
* Haifa — 20 MW
* Modiin — 20 MW
* Hadera — planned project
The listed projects with known capacity add up to at least 500 MW, not including Hadera.
Haifa is important because it is close to a subsea internet cable landing point.
Hadera is also strategically located close to the Orot Rabin power station.
⚡ Why Is Electricity So Important?
AI needs enormous amounts of electricity.
Large AI data centers require:
* ⚡ Huge amounts of power
* 🖥️ Thousands of powerful AI chips
* ❄️ Advanced cooling systems
* 🌐 Very fast internet connections
* 🏢 Large buildings and land
This is why countries are now treating data centers as important national infrastructure.
📊 Saudi Arabia vs Israel
🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia 🇮🇱 Israel
Main project NEOM Oxagon Mega DC projects
Location Red Sea coast Several locations
Initial capacity 100 MW Multiple sites
First phase 360 MW Site-specific
Long-term capacity 1,500 MW At least 500 MW from listed capacities
Investment $5 billion announced Total figure not publicly specified by Mega DC
Strategy One very large AI campus Multiple data centers
🌍 The Bigger Picture
Saudi Arabia is trying to build very large AI infrastructure using its huge investment capacity and energy resources.
Israel is building AI data centers in multiple locations, using its technology industry, power infrastructure and international internet connections.
So, this is not one single Saudi-Israel project.
Oxagon is a Saudi Arabian project. Mega DC’s facilities are in Israel.
The bigger story is that the Middle East is becoming an important new region for AI computing and data centers.
In the future, the countries with the most electricity, computing power and data centers could have a major advantage in the global AI race.
