Neuralink’s ultra-thin electrode threads are made from a com

Neuralink’s ultra-thin electrode threads are made from a combination of specialized materials. While the company has not publicly disclosed every manufacturing detail, published research and patents indicate they primarily include:

* Polyimide – A highly flexible, biocompatible polymer that forms the base (substrate) of the thread.
* Gold – Used for some of the conductive traces that carry electrical signals.
* Platinum – Used at the electrode contact sites that interface with brain tissue.
* Thin-film insulating layers – These insulate the conductive traces so that only the electrode tips record or stimulate neural activity.

Key features

* They are thinner than a human hair.
* They are extremely flexible, helping reduce damage caused by normal brain movement.
* Each thread contains multiple electrodes capable of recording or stimulating neural signals.

Because Neuralink’s latest implant design is proprietary, the company has not released the complete list of materials used in every component.
