Iranian Attacks Reportedly Impact Amazon Cloud Data Centers in the Middle East

Amazon Web Services (AWS) facilities in the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain were reportedly affected by Iranian drone and missile attacks, raising concerns about the security of critical digital infrastructure in the Middle East.

According to reports, several AWS-related data-center facilities in the UAE and Bahrain were affected during attacks in March 2026. Some locations reportedly experienced power disruptions, infrastructure damage, and temporary interruptions to cloud-based services.

AWS data centers support thousands of websites, mobile applications, businesses, financial services, and online platforms. As a result, damage to a major data-center facility can affect multiple digital services at the same time.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for some of the attacks. However, the full extent of the damage and several claims related to the incidents remain difficult to independently verify.

Reports also indicated that an AWS-related facility in Bahrain was targeted again. Iranian state media described the damage as significant, while detailed independent confirmation and complete official information from Amazon remained limited.

Experts say the incidents highlight a growing concern in modern warfare: critical digital infrastructure, including cloud data centers, AI computing systems, and large-scale technology facilities, may increasingly become strategic targets.
