In India, ordinary (general) class has much higher comparison of land than Dalits. Some major data based on the details across the country are given below:
📊 Nationwide data
• According to the Agricultural Census 2015–16, the Scheduled Castes (SC ie Dalits) are only about 9 percent of the operators of the agricultural land, while their rural population is about 18.5percent, which shows clear inequality .
• The average ground-holding of SC houses is about 0.52 hectares, while the average of the "other" (ordinary/general) category is about 1.05 hectares.
• Most of the Scheduled Castes (about 50percent) families have less than 0.4 hectares of land, while in general category this percentage is about 33percent().
• 71percent of Dalit rural families are landless laborers, and 58.4percent do not have their own land at all.
👥 Comparison of general population
• According to a study, the Hindu General Class (UPPER-Caste) control 30percent of the total agricultural land despite the 20percent population, while the share of Hindu Dalits (Paasi/Chamar etc.) is only 25 percent in the total land (it includes muslim dalits) .
• In states like Uttar Pradesh:
• 15 percent of total land near Brahmins
• Thakurs/Kshatriyas have ~ 11 percent
• While Dalit castes like Pasi, Chamar's part is very low (about 0–5 percent ).
🌾 State-specific figures (for example Punjab)
• Despite the population of Dalits in the total farmers in Punjab, they have only 3.5 percent agricultural land.
• 33 percent of the state panchayat mango land (Shamalat) is reserved for SC, but the land given is just 3 percent , the rest is parasol or grabbed ().
✅ main conclusion Category stake / average holding SC share in total agricultural land ≈9 percent General category share in total agricultural land ≈30 percent SC average land 0.52 hectares General category average land 1.05 hectares Landless SC Family ~ 58–71 percent. The general category people get about three times more agricultural land than the Dalits (SC) - such as the SC has ~ 9 percent of the total agricultural land, while the general class has ~ 30 percent land. The average size of Jamin per family is also twice the general class. This widespread inequality among parties reflects deep differences in terms of property, opportunity, and social impact.
