Cross-species fertilization means attempting to create an embryo using sperm and egg from two different species.

When can it be possible?

This is generally only possible when the species are very closely related, for example:

* Horse Donkey → Mule
* Lion Tiger → Liger (rare, usually in captivity)

Why does it usually not work?

* Different chromosome numbers or structures
* DNA instruction mismatches
* Different egg-sperm recognition systems
* Embryo development often fails

Why is it called “practical”?

In theory, some biological barriers can be studied under laboratory conditions, but producing a real, healthy, naturally viable offspring is not possible for most species combinations.

In the case of humans:

Humans are not genetically compatible with any other existing animal species, so human-animal fertilization is not practical for viable reproduction.

Important:

In scientific research, cells or embryos may sometimes be used to study diseases or development, but this is not the same as normal reproduction.

Yes—research has been done, but not to create “human animal babies.”

The goal is to better understand biology, development, and medical science (such as organ growth or disease research).

What kinds of research?

* Chimeras: Introducing human cells into animal embryos (such as pigs or monkeys) to study how cells develop
* Stem cell research: Using human stem cells to explore development or organ-generation possibilities
* Fertilization barrier studies: Understanding reproductive barriers between different species

Important point:

These experiments are governed by strict ethical and legal rules. The purpose is not to create viable cross-species humans, and such embryos are typically studied only under tightly controlled limits.

Why is this research done?

* Organ transplant research
* Understanding genetic diseases
* Early developmental biology
* Improving drug testing

Bottom line:

Yes, cross-species biological research has been conducted, but its purpose is to advance science and medicine—not to create new hybrid species.
