Anthropic agreed to pay about $1.25 billion per month to SpaceX/xAI for compute infrastructure access.
That means roughly:
$15 billion per year
Potentially $40+ billion total if the agreement continues through 2029.
The deal reportedly includes access to:
Colossus 1
Colossus 2
220,000+ NVIDIA GPUs
300+ MW compute capacity in Memphis.
This is one of the largest AI compute contracts ever reported publicly. It also shows how expensive frontier AI has become:
model training
inference (running Claude for users)
GPU shortages
electricity + cooling costs
