AI and CGI – Simple Definitions
1. AI (Artificial Intelligence)
AI stands for Artificial Intelligence.
It is the technology that enables computers and machines to think, learn, understand, and make decisions in a way that resembles human intelligence. AI systems learn from data and can generate images, videos, text, speech, and more on their own.
Examples:
• Chatbots like ChatGPT or Grok
• Image generators like Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, or Grok Imagine
• Face recognition, voice assistants (Siri, Alexa)
• Self-driving cars

2. CGI (Computer-Generated Imagery)
CGI stands for Computer-Generated Imagery.
It refers to images, animations, 3D models, and visual effects created entirely with computer software. CGI is widely used in movies, video games, advertisements, and videos to create realistic or stylized visual content that doesn’t exist in the real world.
Examples:
• Special effects in movies like Avatar, Jurassic Park, or Marvel films
• Characters and environments in video games
• 3D product visuals in advertisements

Quick Difference
• AI = The “brain” (machines that can learn and create)
• CGI = The “visuals” (computer-created images and animations)
Today, AI is often used inside CGI pipelines to speed up and improve the creation of computer-generated visuals.
