A hacker named "ThinkingOne" has leaked a 34 GB database containing personal data of over 201 million X (formerly Twitter) users. The leaked data includes usernames, user IDs, full names, locations, email addresses, follower counts, profile info, time zones, and profile images. This breach stems from a vulnerability discovered in January 2022, which was exploited before being fixed, combined with a more recent breach from January 2025. The hacker claims to have tried contacting X but received no response, prompting them to release the data publicly on a hacking forum. Researchers have partially verified the data's authenticity, confirming valid email addresses and matching user details.
Separately, there are claims of an even larger alleged insider data leak involving 2.8 billion X user records, reportedly stolen by a disgruntled employee during company layoffs. This larger dataset, about 400 GB, was merged with previous breach data but has not been officially acknowledged by X. However, the 201 million user leak is the confirmed and publicly available breach as of now.
