The universe contains billions of stars and countless planets. Our home is the Solar System, with the Sun at its center. Eight major planets orbit the Sun: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Each planet has different internal structures, atmospheres, gravity, and possibilities for supporting life.
What is the Sun?
The Sun is a star made primarily of:

Inside the Sun’s core, hydrogen atoms combine to form helium. This process is called nuclear fusion, and it releases enormous amounts of energy as light and heat.
