🧬 What is Sperm and How is it Made?
Sperm, also known as शुक्राणु, is the male reproductive cell. It is produced in the testes . This process is continuous in the body and is called spermatogenesis.
🔄 Process of Sperm Formation (Spermatogenesis)
1) 🧪 Starting from Germ Cells
Inside the testes, germ cells are the initial cells that eventually develop into sperm.
2) 🔁 Cell Division
Germ cells go through several stages of division:
• Spermatogonia (initial cells)
• Primary spermatocyte
• Secondary spermatocyte
• Spermatid
3) 🧬 Formation of Mature Sperm
The spermatid gradually changes shape to become a mature sperm:
• 🧠 Head – Contains DNA
• ⚡ Middle piece – Provides energy
• 🏃 Tail – Helps in movement
4) 🚀 Maturation and Storage
• Newly formed sperm are stored in the epididymis.
• Here, they fully mature and become motile (active).
5) 💦 Ejaculation
During ejaculation:
• Sperm is mixed with fluids produced by the prostate gland and seminal vesicles.
• This mixture is called semen (वीर्य), which is then released from the body.
⏳ How Long Does It Take?
It takes approximately 64–74 days for a sperm to fully develop.
