The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is the world’s most powerful space telescope. It was developed jointly by NASA, European Space Agency, and Canadian Space Agency.

Key Facts

* 🚀 It was launched on December 25, 2021.
* 🪞 Its primary mirror is 6.5 meters (21 feet) wide and consists of 18 gold-coated hexagonal mirror segments.
* 🌍 It operates about 1.5 million kilometers (930,000 miles) from Earth near the Sun–Earth L2 Lagrange Point.
* 🌌 It mainly observes the universe in infrared light, allowing it to see through cosmic dust and detect very distant galaxies and stars.

Main Goals

* 🌟 Study the first stars and galaxies that formed after the Big Bang.
* 🪐 Analyze the atmospheres of exoplanets orbiting other stars.
* ☄️ Understand how stars and planetary systems form and evolve.

Important Discoveries

* It has observed some of the earliest known galaxies in the universe.
* It has captured detailed images of star-forming regions hidden behind dust clouds.
* It has studied the atmospheres of distant exoplanets, detecting molecules such as water vapor and carbon dioxide in some cases.

The James Webb Space Telescope is often considered the successor to the Hubble Space Telescope, but it is designed to observe the universe in different wavelengths and look much farther back in time.
