Not all butter is made from milk and cream.
Surprised? You should be.

In many budget food joints or packaged food brands, the “butter” used isn’t what you think. Especially in cheaper alternatives, you’re often being served margarine (made from vegetable oils) or even tallow butter (derived from animal fat).

These substitutes are designed to mimic real butter — but cost a fraction to produce.

Why does this matter?
Because many of us assume “vegetarian” means dairy-based — but in reality, you might be unknowingly consuming animal-based fats.

And here’s the tricky part:
Labels hide behind vague chemical names and it’s completely legal. Unless you’re closely tracking the supply chain, you might never even know.

So next time you eat at a low-cost food joint or buy ultra-cheap butter — remember:
It might not be vegetarian.
And you probably won’t be able to tell the difference.
