What Is Climate Change?

Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns. While it can happen naturally, human activities—especially since the 1800s—have become the main cause, mostly by burning fossil fuels like coal, oil, and gas.

These activities release greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide (CO₂) and methane, which trap heat in Earth’s atmosphere, leading to global warming.

🔥 Key Impacts:
• Earth’s temperature is now 1.2°C higher than in the 1800s.
• We are seeing droughts, floods, melting ice, sea level rise, wildfires, and loss of biodiversity.

🌏 Who Is Affected?

Everyone is affected, but developing countries and island nations suffer the most. Rising seas and extreme weather are already forcing some communities to relocate.

❗ Why It Matters:
• If we don’t act, temperatures may rise over 3°C by the end of the century.
• The biggest polluters—China, USA, India, EU, Russia, and Brazil—must lead climate action.

✅ What Can Be Done:
1. Cut emissions by moving to clean energy like solar and wind.
2. Adapt to changes by protecting people and infrastructure.
3. Finance climate solutions, especially in poorer countries.

To limit warming to 1.5°C, global emissions must be cut 50 percent by 2030, and fossil fuel use must fall by 30 percent.
