🔹 First Phase - Inc‑5.1 (Busan, South Korea)
• Date: 25 November - 1 December 2024, Busan Exhibition and Convention Center, Busan .
• Participants: 170 countries, 3,300 representatives, 220 plastic/fosil fuel industry representative ().
• Main issues:
• Reduction in plastic production
• Control of Plastic Products and Chemicals of Concern
• Financial helpful system for developing countries
• Results: No final agreement could be reached - there was deep differences between the parties, especially for the production cuts.
• Session adjournment: Further 'Chair’s Text' was released and made the basis for Inc‑5.2. 🔹 Second Phase - Inc‑5.2 (予定 in Geneva, Switzerland)
• Date: 5 - 14 August 2025, Palais Des Nations, Geneva .

❗ Why is Inc‑5 important?
• Plastic production is growing rapidly in the present time and is prone to three -fold increase by 2050 ().
• INC‑5 is the decisive phase where it is to be decided whether the world is ready for a binding agreement - A as the Paris Agreement of 2015 ().
• There is a conflict between developed and developing countries over financial assistance and responsibility.
• Plastic industry was also seen in large -scale interference in Inc‑5 - Busan had a record 220 industry representatives. ,
🧭 What next?
• Inc‑5.2, Geneva, will be held in August 2025.
• During this time it is expected that all those differences will be abolished, which led to tough controversy in Busan.
• If the Inc‑5.2 was successful, its joint conference will be called during 2025–2026, where the agreement can be formally adopted.
