The Government of India has NOT banned Artificial Intelligen
The Government of India has NOT banned Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the country.
However, there are some restrictions and regulations in specific contexts.
1️⃣ AI is not banned for the public
People in India can freely use AI tools like ChatGPT and other AI apps. There is no nationwide ban on AI technology.
2️⃣ Restrictions for government employees
India’s Finance Ministry issued an internal advisory telling government employees not to use AI tools like ChatGPT or DeepSeek on official government devices.
This was done to protect sensitive government data.
This rule applies only to certain government departments — not to the general public.
3️⃣ Rules on AI-generated content (like deepfakes)
The government has strengthened IT rules requiring:
• AI-generated content (such as deepfake videos or fake documents) to be properly labeled.
• Harmful or illegal AI content to be removed quickly by social media platforms.
4️⃣ Warnings to specific platforms
In some cases, the government has warned platforms (for example, regarding tools like Grok AI) to comply with Indian laws and prevent misuse.
In simple terms:
• AI is not banned in India.
• There are data protection and misuse prevention rules.
• Some internal restrictions apply to government offices only.
