Om(ॐ) is not an ordinary sound; it is the primordial, eternal, and infinite vibration of the universe, known as Pranava or the Word-Brahman. According to Vedic philosophy and spiritual tradition, this sound emerged with the very beginning of creation and continues to reverberate throughout the entire cosmos even today. It symbolizes that fundamental cosmic hum present in the motion of planets, the journey of the sun, every pulsation of nature, and even in the rhythm of our own breath. Many people symbolically claim that the rotation of the Earth or the expansion of the universe carries the echo of Om, though scientifically, the Earth’s rotational frequency (approximately 0.00001157 Hz) does not numerically match the typical frequency of chanting Om (100–400 Hz). While this claim may not be literally true in a scientific sense, it holds a profound spiritual and poetic truth. In reality, Om is the name of that unstruck sound (Anahata Nada) which yogis hear in deep meditation—a sound that arises neither from any instrument nor from any external vibration, but is itself the very essence of universal consciousness. When we chant Om or simply listen to it, we are attempting to merge with that same infinite rhythm, that same universal vibration which existed before creation, which exists now, and which will exist forever. Therefore, in a beautiful sense, it can be said that Om is what the universe is continuously “speaking”—whether it speaks through rotation, through expansion, through contraction, or even through remaining completely silent in perfect void. 🌌🕉️
