Karl Bushby, a British adventurer and former paratrooper, began his extraordinary “Goliath Expedition” on November 1, 1998, aiming to walk an unbroken route around the world entirely on foot, without using any vehicles. He started from Punta Arenas, Chile, traveled through Argentina and northern Chile, then crossed Central America via Panama, Colombia, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador. In North America, he walked through Mexico, the USA, and Canada, eventually crossing the frozen Bering Strait from Alaska to Russia. In Asia, he continued through Russia, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, and Azerbaijan, swimming across the Caspian Sea in 2024. In Europe, he walked through Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, and Hungary, and is now approaching Hull, England, where he is expected to complete his journey in 2026. Along the way, he faced extreme challenges, including the dangerous Darién Gap, harsh frozen terrain, the Caspian Sea crossing, and visa and border issues, covering over 30,000 miles (~47,000 km) on foot.
