The Sagarmala Project is an ambitious scheme of the Government of India, which aims to promote economic growth and trade by better developing the country's marine areas and ports. Main Objectives: 1. Port modernization of ports: - Modernizing old ports - Providing new facilities and technology 2. Port Connectivity to ports: - Better additions from rail, road, waterway and pipeline - To transport goods rapidly and cheaply from one place to another 3. Lower Logistics Cost: -Reduce the cost of carrying goods so that industry and business benefits. 4. Development of coastal region: - Increasing industries, tourism and employment opportunities in sea shore cities and villages. - Creating Coastal Economic Zones (Cezs). 5. Establish industrialization in large areas. 6. To give employment to local people. Increase production. When did it start? , - This scheme was launched in 2015. - It is being operated by Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
